Grandbabies and in-laws
Grandmamas and phone calls
Tell the neighbors and your friends y’all
Get ‘em together for a good cause

It’s a backyard barbeque
A vegetarian thing or two
Too many’s better than too few
Told your sister she could ride with you

Everybody’s goin’ hog wild
A celebration for a new child
South of town – outside of Kyle
Everybody wears a big smile

Both sides of the family tree
Gettin’ together like it used to be
Before the city or the TV
Might have to start us up a quiltin’ bee

Pitchin’ washers and horseshoes
Watch me close and learn a thing or two
Nice and easy on the follow-through
Taught your daddy – now I’m teachin’ you

Go ask your momma how you used to be
When you’s a little bitty baby
Cute as a button honey can’t you see
Tell you what you got it all from me

Two little young’uns on a see-saw
There’s another’un with a Barbie doll
Take a picture – put it on your wall
‘Fore you know it they’ll a grown tall

Signed and dated at the age of four
Leave it up ‘til they make you more

They got a hymnal and they’re ‘bout to sing
Little brother readin’ I-Ching
Quite a family if you know what I mean

Granddaddy is a preacher man
He asked us all if we could join our hands
Said some words about a Perfect Man
I’m gonna do it just as best I can

Bless the food to the body good
And the hands that made it if you would
Forgive a sinner if you kindly could
Help us all to lead the lives we should

Holy Ghost, Father, and the Son
Hope you’re here to help us share in the fun
